Sad Buffer I
Digital self-release self-release, pay-what-you-want
The three volumes comprising Sad Buffer are a sample-based minimalist project of repetition and degradation, where every track resulted from scrubbing back and forth through resynthesised buffers (captured audio).
Several causes of degradation (dynamics processing, granular pitch shift, stretch artefacts of slow buffer scrub rates, spectral resynthesis artefacts) transform the source material into thick, haunting, harmonically rich and comforting textures.
With elastic repetition, a buffer scrub suspends time, death, disbelief. It is stagnant in the way some water is: where things nevertheless proliferate, gain meaning and move in imperfect patterns.
